Hello, Ive received a blender file that needs its hair adjusted and Im wondering what would be the best way to convert all the hair curves to individual strands in ornatrix. I want to keep the original look but just tweak it a bit.
Ive export the hair curves and working in maya 2018.
So far I selected all the curves and using GuidesFromCurves.
When using the groundStrands node and attaching to the distribution mesh all the curves shift and some go through the mesh or get stretched.
What is the proper way to convert curves to strands?
Its been awhile since I used ornatrix.

Hi,

This happens because the curves or the distribution mesh have transformation history, maybe both. Delete the history and freeze transforms on both objects before adding the hair. Then, to a 1 to 1 convnertion use Guides as Hair in Hairs from Guides as Distribution Method.

Another way is to just export the hair from Blender as Alembic. Then, in Maya, import the curves as Ornatrix Alembic. This will give you Ornatrix hair by default.

Hey Jeordanis thanks for answering my quesiton!
I went with the first method you mentioned because I wanted edit the curves before making it into hairs, it seems to be working.
I should mention I was using maya 2018 but the Viewport Hair Display wasnt working properly so I switched to maya 2022.  (I updated my drivers and installed the latest Ornatrix 2018 installer but still didnt work)

I have some other questions
While organizing the Nurbs Curves and deleting problematic CVs mostly at the roots I put them in groups so it would be easier to locate them in the outliner.
Is there a way to somehow use the groups containing the curves in my outliner as Strand Groups?  Maybe some way to select the strands that are affected by the curves or something like that?  Any Ideas?

When selecting a strand it shows as more than one strand selected is this normal I thought it would be one curve/guide for one hair?

I may have more questions as I get going, thanks for the speedy response Jeordanis!
