Baking AO (ambient occlusion) to Hair Strands

Is there a way to "bake" an Ambient occlusion pass to hair strands (not hair cards) on a vertex level.

An example is what Epic Games did with Houdini baking out an Ambient Occlusion Signal for Keanu Reeves Hair in the Matrix Revelations (link below)

Hi,

Only by converting the hair objec to polygons. This way you can use it in the map baking proces.
