changing shape of hair without converting to meshes + resolve collisions falloff

Hello,

I am using Maya and VRay.

I am trying to create a grass look that is more stylised. For this I want the shape of each grass hair to be a flat card instead of a cylindar, and the only way I could acheive it is by using MeshFromStrands and covnerting it to "flat ribbons strands". However for grass this method is creating a very heavy scene. Is there a way to acheive the look of a flat card for each hair without converting to mesh ?

Another question regarding the resolve collisions. In this same example of grass, I want to controll the effect of the grass bending around the object. For example, a character's foot stepping on the grass, and bending the grass. I want to control how big of an area around his leg will be flattened. Having trouble controlling "Resolve collisions" for that - can't really get a big falloff around the object to bend the grass, it only bends where the object directly touches the grass and not around the object.

Example attached.

Thank you very much.
