Hair not rendering using command line

Hi! I'm rendering a scene with a character that contains a groom made using Hair From Mesh Strips.

When I try to render using Maya's " Render Sequence..." option everything works fine, but for this file I need to render with the command line, and when I do that the hair doesn't shows up. One thing that I noticed when the render is loading up is this warning:

Warning: line 1: Unrecognized node type for node 'bea_shot_v017:HairShape3'; preserving node information during this session.
the data object was unable to read its value : (0) no error

I pasted here just a small part of it, because it repeats a lot before the render starts.

I'm using Ornatrix 4.5.35, Maya 2024.2 and MtoA 5.4.7

Update:

It looks like the problem was me being stupid. I am working using Maya 2024 but my system environment is pointing to Maya 2025. Installing Ornatrix to Maya 2025 did the trick!

Feel free to delete this thread and sorry about that!

No problem, such mistakes are common.

The "Unrecognized node type" message hints that the plugin was not loaded, and that's what needs to be investigated - why doesn't it load.

Thank you for replying Ivan!

I have another question though: I'm using an animated mesh to drive the hair from strip, and the file is pretty unstable right now. Is there anything that I can do to improve the file stability? What should I avoid, or what good practices should I keep in mind?

Thank you!

Do you mean that you are getting crashes?

Hi Jeordanis!

Yes, sorry, I should have mentioned that Maya is crashing.

I'm getting crashes sometimes when I change frames and also sometimes during the render - Interactive, Render sequence, and using the command prompt. It's pretty random, sometimes I can work for hours, and sometimes it takes 15min.

Right now I'm rendering a sequence using the command prompt for 4h and no crashes, but before that it craches after rendering 2 frames (less than 20 minutes).

In case of crashes you can look for OrnatrixMaya*.log file in the %TEMP% directory and also for files with .dmp extension and send them to us.

What commands are causing the crashes?

Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)

Usually it crashes when I change frames or when I'm trying render an animation sequence. But like I said, it isn't constant. Sometimes it crashes in 10 minutes, sometimes it crashes after 6 hours. I'm a really long time Ornatrix for 3ds Max user, so I admit that feels really uncommon for me to see so many crashes - this is why I thought it could be something that I'm missing or doing wrong.

I've attached the log and the .dmp file too. ;)

Thank you!

Thank you for the files.

In them I see that the crash is in Maya, and Ornatrix is not present in the call stack of any of the threads.

In this case we can't do much. Even if you could send us your scene and we reproduced the crash, I don't know if we could figure out the cause. This looks like an issue to report to Autodesk.

Got it. That's odd, because I removed Ornatrix from my file and I'm not having any crashes anymore.

Welp, back to Xgen I guess... Thanks for all the support though!!!

Can you try removing your Maya settings folder(the one in Documents/ if you are on Windows) and start with a new configuration? Is a rare case but I have seen the Maya config files cause some issues with Ornatrix that I have never been able to reproduce. Once I was able to reproduce it using the Maya settings folder from the user, that could be an option if you can share the scene.

Can you post a screenshot of your operator stack?
