Using Animation cache with Guides from Curves

I am trying to attach an exported Ornatrix Alembic cache and apply it to a groom that was built from curves but I am running into some issues. What I am seeing is that the guides change drastically. They shift to one side of the scalp after application.

I tried...

1. Moving the Anim cache node to below the ground strands and regrounding

2. Exporting with out world space

3. checked history on objects

4. turning off all of the nodes in the stack and exporting

So far no luck, any suggestion. Sorry Marsel, I would email you directly but I know that you have a lot on your hands right now and maybe someone in the forums can solve this.

Thank you,

James

Hi James, no worries. Do you think you can send me a screenshot or the video of the problematic drastic changes you speak of? It could explain what is going on better.

Hey Marsel,

I figured it out and now have a better understanding of how the Ornatrix Alembic works. Here is my workflow and everything works out.

  1. Lighting would need a master look to import which we provide

  2. CFX will have the look and sim in their working file.

    1. When sim is finished and their are ready to publish, the artist will need to turn off all of the nodes above the ground strands

    2. Select the HairFromCurves operator at the top of the stack

    3. In maya Export you will export as an OrnatrixAlembic .abc file and make sure that world space is checked off. Also set the frame range. This will export the guides as one single object. If this was done above the HairFromGuides, it would output the hair as guides.

    4. Export

  3. Publish master for lighting

    1. In the master there should be no sim curves, only the groom.

    2. We can collapse the stack from GroundStrands down

    3. Add an AnimationCache node at the bottom below the hairFromGuides and then import the .abc that CFX outputted.

The problem was that I was optputting the hair as guides and then adding the Animation Node below the hairFromGuides so the guide count was messed up.
