Does Maya's alembic cache export work differently on ornatrix hair than the ornatrix export? Withouth v-ray, how does one make sure the imported alembic file curves/splines can be individually manipulated in modo, c4d, 3dsmax, etc? |
| Hi Frank, Sorry for the delay. Try converting the guides or hairs to curves using CurvesFromStrands operator. This will create a group with the curves and preserve the animation, select the group (not individual guides) and export the .abc file using Maya's default .abc exporter from the cache menu. | I tried the previously mentioned method to export the animated Ox curves to Blender, it works perfectly, I don't have Modo to try but is probably the same. For 3ds Max is different. You have to export the animation using our .abc exporter, the import the static curves into Max, create a GuidesFromShape object and add the curves Shape list, add an Ox Strand Animation modifier on top and load the .abc file there. | When you say "create a group" and select the group do you mean the "CurvesFromStrandsNode1"? (Which is the second from the top under Fur Ball for me. I just watched and followed this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9gsjY6DPnI I was also considering just converting to xgen then export. Should do the trick as well, right? |
| I meant the group create by CurvesFromStrands, don't select the node itself or individual guides (one by one or using control), select the group instead: "I was also considering just converting to xgen then export. Should do the trick as well, right?" I'm not sure, please give it a try and let me know. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.) |
| I have a transform node under my plane object. Did you add OxHairSystem curves from Ornaatrix shelf or manually? |
| This group is created automatically. Maybe you have to turn ON shapes in the outliner. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.) |
