Hello.

I'm really new to Ornatrix and was wanting to create some hair for my uni project. I had the idea of export my fibermesh hair as curves and using those curves as guides to create Ornatrix hair. But when i tried to create the hair from guides I got an error saying (Warning: Ornatrix: HairFromGuidesNode cannot generate hair. Please Check if guide count in guidesfromMesh is big enough for chosen guide interpolation method!) I have no idea what tthis means. I've tried putting up and the point count. I've tried upping the poli count on my scalp i've double checked that all my curves are inside my scalp, I've also tried just using regular nerbs curves that i drew in myself but nothing seems to work.

I'd also like that add, that if i use just a regular sphere it works perfectly fine and I have no idea why.

Please help! thank you.

Hi,

Please make sure you are using the GroundStrands operator to ground the imported curves to the scalp/distribution mesh.

Here is a video showing the correct steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNC1XEq8yBA

The UI is a bit different but is the same concept. Basically, you just have to go into GroundStrands operator, add your distribution mesh and uncheck Detached Roots. Here is the documentation for this operator: https://ephere.com/plugins/autodesk/maya/ornatrix/docs/2/Ground_Strands.html

Let me know if this works for you.

Hello Jeordanis

Unfortunetly I have tried this, like i said in my post, it works perfectly with a sphere. But when I try it with my character or even just the characters sculpt, it doesn't work.

Thank you for replying so fast!

Can you share your scene for testing? If so, please send it to jeordanis.f@ephere.com. Don't worry, I will take a look into it and find the problem.

I can't actually save because i'm on the demo (was going to buy it if I could actually get it to work) so i'm going to send you my assets instead.

Thank for the files. I will take a look and get back to you as soon as I can.

The problem is that your mesh scalp does not have proper UVs. As you can see in the script editor, there are two warnings: The one you already know "Guidesfrommesh not big enough" and "Cannot interpolate in UV space because mesh does not contain texture coordinates. Turn "Use UV Coords" option off to fix. //". The last one gives you a clue on what the problem is and how to solve this.

When creating hair is always good to create UVs for your mesh, you are going to paint texture maps and other masks to style the groom.

In the following image you can see how Ornatrix is working properly:
