Smooth Bind skin with Alembic Vray Proxy objects

Hi All,
  I was able to export and import ornatrix alembic file successfully as vray proxy.

  The vray proxy hair is a beard, so it needs to move along with the mouth blendshapes.  Usually, I parent joints to the skin, and smooth bind the hair to these joints.  But the vray proxy does not allow me to smooth bind it to any joints. 

  How are people doing this? 

I think I have solved my own issue, and will have to simulate the hair in ornatrix and re-export the ornatrix alembic after simulation.  There isn't much motion on the beard, so I was hoping to avoid this extra step of having to run a simulation, so - if anyone has any other ideas :)  otherwise I will simulate.
