Terracing effect between guides

Hi there. I have a groom that is working for 80% of it but I am getting terracin arond the rear end between guides.

The guides (as roughly drawn) are pretty similar shapes. but no matter what I try I cant get even hair distribution between them.

Currently I am using:

Uniform Distribution
Uniform random - 0.6
Guide interpolation - segment
Guide count - Interpolate between 3 guides

No combination of settings seems to counter the terracing effect. Any ideas?

Hi,

Maybe this is due to the Uniform Interpolation. Have you tried the "Even" Interpolation?

Hey, Yeah I have tried all combinations. When I up the fur count I actually notice it in all areas.
I think it is a problem with the interpolation between guides.

Is there a way to force the interpolation beyond 3? I wonder if the basic count of guides is just too low. Pic attached
You can see in the pic, more terracing on the sides.
-one side note -- Does the smoothing of hair curves relate to tesselation of the underlying mesh at all? I am render-time smoothing currently, but could do one level of poly smooth if it helps.

Temporarily, I will try to convert the length (the most drastically affected value) to a texture map, which is tedious!

I see. Is difficult to know without taking a look into the scene. Are you allowed to share it for testing? If so, please send it to jeordanis.f@ephere.com. Remember to put a link to this thread in the email. I will try to find out what is wrong.

Jeordanis. I'll do that later today. Thanks!!
