Can we have GuidesfromCurves added to the tool bar so it can be added in the stack? It would make our workflow a lot easier. As of now, to use moded curves in edit guides as guideCurves, we have to export the curves, collapse the stack, and rebuild the groom. If I can add this node above the editGuides, collapse from there and not have the baked guides it would be a lot faster.

Hi James,

If I understand correctly, you are converting guides to curves then to guides again?

yes. This was the workflow we had at Blur using max and I try to copy it in maya.

There are two nodes that might help you with this: CurvesFromStrands to convert the hair to curves and GuidesFromhair to convert the hair to guides. in Both cases you can convert the guides or curves back to hair. Let me know if that's what you are looking for.

I know that, the issue is not converting to curves. It is converting to curves, extracting those converted curves, then having to rebuild the hair with the curves created. Here is the workflow

create guidesFromMesh (to block out the groom) ---> EditGuides ---> Use CurvesFromStrands (to get new curves) ---> take extracted curves and rebuild the hair stack, usually by copying and pasting.

If I start with curves, edit them and want to use the new curves, I can always use the remove input curves and add the new ones afterwards but the the Outliner window that is used for this is very difficult to use. ALl of the groups are opened up and it seems that the items just cycle as you scroll down the list.

Ah right, I understand, sounds interesting. We'll consider this, thanks for the suggestion.
