Hello, I'm using Ornatrix for Maya and I'm having a big problem. I'm trying to create strand groups for partings, following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o51lwSwTE4 and I can't make it work. Or to be precise, after pressing every button I made it work once and never again. I'm following it step by step, create the channel named exactly "Groups", select the strands, select the channel, write the number, press enter. Select another strand, select Groups channel, write another number, press enter, etc. No modifier recognizes them. What am I doing wrong? Does it have to do with the tab "Strands" that's on top of that one? I messed with that and made it work once but wasn't able to repeat it. Also sometimes it is just greyed out and sometimes it isn't but when I tick "Use Strands Groups" it unticks automatically. Sounds like a bug? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide

Hello Sofia, The method to create strand groups has changed in new versions, it is simpler and more intuitive now. In EditGuides you just have to select the guides in Strand mode, Turn On "Use Strand Groups" and click on Assign Unique. This function will create a unique group for the selected guides every time you press the button, you don't have to enter the value manually or create the Group channel manually.
As you can see in the gif below it is pretty simple:
All this information is in our documentation HERE.
"Also sometimes it is just greyed out and sometimes it isn't but when I tick "Use Strands Groups" it unticks automatically. Sounds like a bug?" We have a similar bug a few months ago but this was fixed. Please update to the latest stable build if you haven't done yet.
PS: For better organization I suggest the creacion of a Guide Channel called "Partings", select the channel and follow the same instructions in the gif to create some groups, this way you have a separate channel for the parting only. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)

I see that your guides are not grounded to any mesh (by using Ground Strands), which is requieres for Strand Groups to work correctly. You can either ground the guides to a mesh or switch Edit Guides > Interpolation Options > Change Tracking to Strands.
Edit: This feature is not working. We are working to fix it asap. The bug report is #6385. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)

I tried to ground them, but still not working. However, thanks so much for the interpolation options trick, that fixed it. but I need to return to the original later to get the sub-clump working. but at least those groups don't go away. |
