Layered Bob Hairstyle

Redshift render of the groom

A layered bob groomed by Jeordanis Figuereo. The roots are placed per layer on the scalp, each layer is its own strand group, and the layers are combed and cut separately before they are clumped, which is how a real haircut holds its shape.

The groom uses Guides from Mesh, Hair from Guides, Guides from Hair, Clumping, Frizz, Changing Strand Detail, Symmetry, Length Operator, Filter, Change Width, Generate Strand Data and Push Away From Surface. It is shaded and set up for Redshift, but the groom itself opens and evaluates without it.

Requires Maya 2026 and Ornatrix 5.2.0.39751 or newer. Set the project to the extracted folder before opening scenes/bobGroom_2026.mb, so that the parting and distribution maps in sourceimages resolve.

Simulation Caches

The comb and wind simulations are available separately as Ornatrix hair animation caches in Alembic form, 140 MB: BobHairstyle_Maya_SimCaches.zip

They are not referenced by the scene. Import one to play back the animation without re-simulating, and extract the archive over the project folder so the files land in cache/alembic.
