Manual Installation
Dump-installing Ornatrix "by hand"
In most cases the easiest way to get Ornatrix running is through the automated online or offline installer. In some cases, though, installing files manually might be required. For example, people managing custom deployment of files for their studio might need to get all the needed files ahead of time and put them into correct directories later. This document describes how to install Ornatrix manually (without the use of an installer provided by us).
Step 1: Download Ornatrix files
Ornatrix supports multiple 3ds Max versions. Make sure that you download the correct build for your version of 3ds Max. Ornatrix assembly is 32/64 bit neutral so it doesn't matter how many bits your system has, just the version of 3ds Max. Downloading an Older Version
If you need to grab a version of Ornatrix older than the latest one you can add "&version=VERSION_NUMBER" at the end of the download URL above to download the archive of that version. For example, you wanted to download Ornatrix V3.1.1.1 for 3ds Max 2015 you would use the URL:
ephere.com/download.aspx?p=ephere.plugins.autodesk.max.ornatrix,3&conf=2015x64&version=3.1.1.1
Step 2: Copy files
Once you have finished downloading the .zip archive from previous step extract it into a temporary directory. There should be a number of files and folders, which you will need to copy into appropriate places. Assuming that we have the following directories defined:
- <3dsmax>- The installation directory of 3ds Max (for example, C:\Program Files\3dsmax 2014)
- <UserAppData> - The windows user application directory for 3dsmax (for example, C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20XX - XXbit\enu)
copy the extracted files so that you end up with following:
- <3dsmax>\Ephere.Plugins.Autodesk.Max.Ornatrix.Authorizer.dll (this is only needed for commercial version of Ornatrix)
- <3dsmax>\PhysXCooking.dll (only copy if the file isn't already there)
- <3dsmax>\PhysXLoader.dll (only copy if the file isn't already there)
- <3dsmax>\plugins\Ornatrix.dlo
- <UserAppData>\plugcfg\*.* (copy all extracted files and sub-folders)
- <UserAppData>\scripts\*.* (copy all extracted files and sub-folders)
For Ornatrix 1.8 and below only:
- <3dsmax>\OrnaCore.dll
Step 3: Set up the License Server
The final step involves setting up a license server for your workstation or for your network license machine. This step cannot be performed manually and our installer must be used. However, this only needs to be done once and on one machine so this step does not apply to updating Ornatrix.
You can get full instructions about setting up the license server in its documentation.
Things which cannot be installed manually
Some components of Ornatrix, such as the Ornatrix toolbar, can only be installed through automatic installation because they require instructions to modify 3ds Max user files to be run during the install and uninstall process. Therefore, when installing manually it is expected that these features will be absent from your installation.
