About Ornatrix Maya

Ornatrix is a commercial plugin for Autodesk Maya created, maintained, and distributed by Ephere Inc. . With it installed, Maya acquires new functionality allowing user-friendly creation, modeling, management, animation, and rendering of computer generated hair, fur, feathers, and other scattered primitives such as foliage.

Ornatrix builds on existing workflows inside Maya to create a seamless environment which is familiar to Maya users. It also works together with built-in components like nHair and Xgen to boost their functionality. Nearly all Maya native and 3rd party renderers such as Arnold, V-Ray, Maxwell, Renderman, and Redshift are supported. Technology used within Ornatrix is protected by U.S. Patent 6,720,962.

Modeling

Hair, fur, and feathers can be created very quickly with Ornatrix due to a set of tools designed to simplify this process. Start out by loading an existing groom, ready to be styled and rendered. Use our handy operator stack view to quickly go back and forth between various elements within the hair or use the Schematic for a node based workflow. Use strand groups and channels to non-destructively edit your grooms. Finally, save, bake out, or export the result to your liking.

Animation

Use our fast GPU-based dynamics operator to create realistic hair simulations that collide with your character and the scene. From version 2 of Ornatrix for Maya is included "Moov", our new CPU based hair simulation operator for more accurate and real life behavior. Alternatively, use Maya's own nCloth simulation to make the hair interact with the rest of your Nucleus scene.

Rendering

Set up complex materials for feathers using multiple UV-sets and multiple shaders. Use your renderer of choice to quickly and efficiently render out millions of hair strands.
