Frizz Operator

The Frizz operator adds irregularity to strands, messing them up along their length without changing their overall length. Real hair is never perfectly straight - moisture and handling deform it - so a touch of frizz is one of the simplest ways to make a groom look natural. Frizz is often combined with the Noise Operator and the Curl Operator to build up a believable result.

What it does

Frizz displaces the points of each strand by small, varied amounts, so strands wander slightly rather than running straight. Because the length is preserved, the silhouette stays intact while the surface gains life.

Outliers

Frizz can also create outliers - the occasional rebel strands that stick out the most from an otherwise tidy groom. A small number of these wild hairs adds realism, breaking up the uniformity of dense hair the way stray hairs do in life.

Controlling where frizz applies

Like other styling operators, Frizz exposes a strand group parameter so you can frizz only part of a groom, and its amount can be driven by a strand channel or map so the effect varies across the surface - strong in some areas, subtle in others.
