Paint Texture Tool
The Paint Texture tool lets you paint on texture maps directly in the viewport. Many operator parameters can be driven by a texture map - where hair grows, how strong an effect is, how long strands are - and this tool lets you author those maps by painting on the surface, seeing the groom respond as you work.
Painting a map
Activate the tool and paint on the surface to set values in the chosen texture. The tool lists the texture nodes available in the scene, so you can pick which map to paint. Because the painted map feeds back into the operators that reference it, the effect updates live: paint where you want more density, longer hair, or stronger frizz, and watch it appear.
Maps versus channels
Painting a texture map is one of two ways to author the data that drives a groom. The other is painting a strand channel with the Paint brush in the Edit Guides Operator. Maps live on the surface and are shared like images; channels live on the strands. Both can drive operator parameters, and the Generate Strand Data Operator can convert a map into a channel when you need to.
