Rendering with ProRender

Ornatrix App can render your groom with lighting, shading, and materials using AMD Radeon ProRender, a physically based renderer built into the application. This gives you a realistic preview of how a groom will look - well beyond the working viewport - without leaving the App.

Rendering a groom

Switch the viewport to the ProRender preview to see your groom rendered with global illumination and proper hair shading. The render refines progressively, so you get a quick first impression that sharpens over time. Because hair is shaded relative to its tangent direction, ProRender renders strands the way hair should look rather than treating them as ordinary surfaces.

Lighting

ProRender supports several light types to illuminate your scene:

  • Environment light - lights the scene from a surrounding environment, for soft, natural illumination.
  • Area lights - soft-edged lights from a shape, good for key and fill.
  • Point lights - simple lights radiating from a point.

Materials

The material nodes assigned to your scene geometries are translated into ProRender's physically based materials: a Surface Material into a metalness and roughness surface with every mapped channel as an image texture, a Hair Material into ProRender's hair shading. Transparency is traced, so a surface with an Opacity below 1 shows what is behind it. Geometries without a material render in their plain Color.

Exporting for other renderers

ProRender is for previewing inside the App. To render in another engine or pipeline, export your hair as Alembic or USD curves, which most renderers can read. See Importing and Exporting Geometry, Alembic Export, and USD Export. To render hair as actual surface geometry, convert it first with Rendering Hair as Mesh Geometry.
