Push Away from Surface Operator
The Push Away from Surface operator keeps strands from penetrating the surface they grow from. While grooming - especially when editing many guides at once - it is easy to push strands so they dip below the surface, which looks wrong and causes shading and render artifacts. This operator detects and corrects those intersections procedurally.
What it does
The operator moves strand points that have crossed the surface back out to the correct side, so strands rest on or above the surface instead of poking through it. Because it runs in the stack, it keeps correcting as you continue to edit, rather than being a one-time fix.
Collision meshes
Beyond the distribution surface, you can add extra collision meshes for the strands to be pushed away from. This lets you keep hair clear of props, clothing, or other geometry, not just the surface it grows on. This is the key difference from the equivalent one-time push action in the Edit Guides Operator, which only considers the distribution surface.
Targeting strands
A strand group parameter limits the operator to part of a groom.
