Template Grooms

A groom preset, or template groom, is a complete, ready-made groom: a predefined set of operators and parameters that produce a particular hair style or effect. Presets let you start from a finished look instead of an empty stack, then adapt it to your needs. The bundled "Fur Ball" groom, for instance, sets up guide generation, editing, hair generation, and width control in one step.

Two ways to use a preset

  • Apply to an object: with a base mesh selected, use Groom Preset... to grow a preset's hair on that object. See Grooms Browser and Adding Hair to Objects.
  • Start a new document: use File > New from Template to begin a fresh groom from a template, rather than applying it to existing geometry. See Saving and Loading Grooms.

Where presets come from

Ornatrix App ships with a library of grooms, which appear automatically in the Select Groom dialog and the New from Template menu. Because a groom is itself just a saved groom file, any groom you create and save can become a preset: save it into your grooms library and it will show up alongside the bundled ones.

Groom files

Grooms are stored as self-contained groom files, in the compressed .oxz archive format or the uncompressed .oxg.yaml format. These files can be saved, shared, and opened by any version of Ornatrix. See Saving and Loading Grooms for the formats and how saving works.

After applying a preset

A preset is a normal groom once applied: its operators appear in the The Operator Stack, where you can tune, add, or remove steps to make the style your own.
